28-Year-Old Student Sentenced To One Year In Jail For Stealing N1.1 Million In Jos

The Kasuwan Nama Upper Area Court in Jos, today, sentenced a 28-year-old student identified as Shamsudeen Suleiman, to one-year imprisonment for housebreaking and stealing a whooping N1.1million.

The judge identified to be Yahaya Mohammed of the Kasuwan Nama Upper Area Court in Jos, stated that the punishment which would be received by the 28-year-old Shamsudeen Suleiman would serve as a warning to those who may consider committing a crime later in future.

Yahaya Mohammed, the judge of the Kasuwan Nama Upper Area Court in Jos, ordered the convict, identified to be Shamusdeen Suleiman, to pay back N650, 000 to the complainant as restitution, stating that the Kasuwan Nama Upper Area Court in Jos was not harsh in its judgment because the convict was a first offender of the crime.

Previously, the prosecutor identified to be Abubakar Musa, informed the court that a case of theft was reported on December 19 2018, at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Plateau Command, by one man identified to be Junaidu Ibrahim.

Abubakar Musa, the prosecutor, stated that the convict, who lived in Nassarawa Gwon , broke into the house of the complainant and went away with a box which contained over. N1.1 million.

When the 28-year-old offender and convict, Shamusdeen Suleiman, was brought before the court, he pleaded guilty to the two-count charge which the prosecutor said contravened Sections 287 and 254 of the Penal Code in the Nigerian constitution.

Shamusdeen Suleiman, the offender, despite pleading guilty to the two-count charge, was sentenced to one-year imprisonment for his offence of stealing of over N1.1 million.

Like the judge of the court stated, Yahaya Mohammed, the offence in which Suleiman committed will serve as a warning to other people who may have the full intention of committing the crime.

The convict has, however, been ordered to pay the amount which he stole.
