Zidane Says Messi-Abidal Fall Out Would Not Affect Barcelona’s Season

Zinedine Zidane was made to make comments on fresh Barcelona row between Lionel Messi and Eric Abidal. The Real Madrid gaffer was asked questions about happenings at the Camp Nou in an interview concerning the Copa del Rey clash between Real Madrid and Real Sociedad.

The French gaffer said he doesn’t expect the Blaugranas to be weakened by the off-field crisis that has caused some sort of unrest at the club.

A row kicked off between Messi and Abidal after the former responded to the sporting director’s accusation. Abidal accused Barcelona players of not putting in their best under the tenure of Ernesto Valverde.

Messi responded publicly to Abidal’s comments on Instagram, where he wrote:

“When talking about players we should give names, because if not we are all getting dirtied and feeding things that are said but aren’t true”.

The situation is so serious that it has been suggested that Messi could activate a portion of his clause which allows him to walk away from the club at the end of the campaign.

However, Zidane was reluctant to wade into the issue which he believes would not harm the Blaugranas season.

“They’re not going to be weak, they’re a very competitive team. We’re not thinking about that for one minute.

“They will compete with us until the end of the season. Good players are always good.”

Talking about his team who are poised to take Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey, Zidane said:

“We have good momentum, we have to keep going in the same way.

“There’s a long way to go yet, we haven’t won anything yet and that’s what it’s all about. You can be happy when you’ve won something, but we haven’t won anything yet.”
