7yr old rapper, Fresh Kid to go to jail if he doesn’t quit music

A Ugandan child rapper, Patrick Sseyonjo whose stage name is Fresh Kid has been threatened with jail if he doesn’t stop doing music and focus on his education.

The threat on the young talent was announced by Ugandan’s Minister of Youth Affairs, Florence Nakiwala.

In a recent chat with BBC, the Minister warned that if Fresh Kid doesn’t stop doing music and concentrate on his education, she would have no choice but to send him to juvenile prison.

Florence Nakiwala says she had received a report that the young rapper does not go to school but rather does music at clubs even upto late into the night.

She added that the constitution also says that no one under the age of 18 is allowed to work for any reason.

In her words:

The constitution clearly states that no one under the age of 18 is allowed to work therefore Fresh kid should not be working rather be in school. Anyone found aiding his music career will have to face the law as well.

However, Fresh Kid’s manager ,Francis Kamonga stated that the kid doesn’t skip school and that he only performs on weekends.

He also explained that the young boy doesn’t get paid for his performances, hence can’t be said to be working.

He said:

I discovered him in a rural village miming some songs, brought him to the city and started paying his school fees
