A Lekki British School pupil allegedly puts acid in classmate’s water

A 12 year old Junior Secondary School I pupil of the Lekki British International School, Lekki, Lagos, has been expelled for allegedly pouring ethanol and sulphuric acid into the water bottle of his classmate.

Reports had it that the 12-year-old was envious of the 11-year-old female classmate, who had beaten him to the first position in the first and second terms.

The incident was said to have happened around 1.30pm on Wednesday, June 14.

While the school was planning for the third term exam, he 12-year-old sneaked into the school’s chemistry laboratory and stole the acid and ethanol. He was said to have poured them into the 11-year-old’s water bottle after mixing the chemical.

He was reportedly caught in the act by two pupils of the school who then reported him to the school management.

The suspect was said to have owned up to the crime, and confessed that he had been planning it for sometime.

Amidst all of this, a member of the 11-year-old’s family said on Wednesday that the school allowed him to sit for the third term examination, despite the culprit’s confession.

However, when the school management was contacted, an official, who chose to remain anonymous, said the pupil had been expelled.

She said, “The boy has been expelled with immediate effect. The girl is in school and she is fine. We have zero tolerance for such misbehaviour.”
