AC Milan Appoint Stefan Pioli Following Giampaolo Sack

AC Milan have appointed Stefan Pioli as their new head coach following the sack of Marco Giampaolo.

The former Inter Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina gaffer is now the Rossoneris seventh manager in less than six years.

He is succeeding Giampaolo who has spent only less than two months while at the helm of affairs at the SanSiro.

Marco Giampaolo won only three of his opening seven league games, leaving the club to languish in 13 position, only three points above the drop zone.

Pioli is now tasked with the responsibility of bringing the club into shape and guiding them back to European football.

AC Milan finished fifth position on the log last term but a violation of the UEFA Financial Fair Play rules of which they were found guilty means they won’t be featuring in this season’s Europa League.

Pioli’s coaching career which first began at Salernitana in 2003 has taken him to 12 clubs preceding his appointment at AC Milan.

He has managed clubs like Parma, Lazio, Bologna and Milan staunch city rivals, Inter Milan where he could only manage six months before his sack.

From there he signed for Fiorentina before resigning from La Viola in April 2019, only two years after.

He is now the seventh manager the seven time European champions have signed since their sack of Massimiliano Allegri in 2014.

AC Milan legends have come to fill in the hot seat but have been sent packing few months after.

The likes of Clarence Seedorf, Filippo Inzaghi, Sinisa Mihajlovic and Vincenzo Montella have all made way to the coaching seat but have failed to hit the mark.

In fact, Gennaro Gattuso remains the longest-serving head coach since Allegri’s departure, leading the club for 18 months.

The Milan legend and former Italy midfielder led to the Serie A giants to a fifth-placed finish last term, missing out on fourth and a place in the Champions League by one point to main rivals, Inter.
