Aguero Equals Henry Record With Goal Against Watford
Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero has scored his 175th goal in the Premier League, equalling a previous record set by Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry.
The Argentine drew level with Henry on the charts for the most goals by a non-English born goalscorer in Premier League history as his side strolled past Aston Villa.
Aguero scored the Citizens’ third goal of the encounter, equalling Henry’s tally in the process.
Henry hit that mark in 258 appearances for Arsenal over two spells in North London, while Aguero matched that feat in 255 appearances for Manchester City, since he made the switch from the Wanda Metropolitano to the Etihad.
The Argentina International is now only two goals behind Premier League’s third highest goalscorer, current Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard. He is also 12 adrift of Andrew Cole who once played for City’s fierce rivals, Manchester United.
The Manchester City forward still has a bunch of goals to go to surpass those of the two ahead of him with both players notching over 200 goals during their time in England’s top-flight.
Another former Manchester United player, Wayne Rooney scored an impressive 208 goals while the League’s all-time highest goal scorer, Alan Shearer found the net an incredible 260 times in his spells for Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers.
Rooney is still on course to increase his tally as he has pitched his tent with Championship side, Derby County where he currently functions as a player-coach. He is poised to help his side back to England’s top-flight, a feat they almost made last campaign.
Aguero, 31, is the Citizens all-time highest goal scorer with his goal tally of 247, 80 more than his closest rival, Tony Book who represented City in the 1930s and ’40s.
Asides scoring the most goals for the Citizens, he also scored the most memorable which was his injury-time goal against QPR in the 2011/12 season helping City to their first ever League win since the 1967/68 campaign.
