- Ebuka says Nigerians are on their own.
- Chidoka says the city lacks a coherent development plan.
Former Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka has described Onitsha, a suburb of Anambra state as an ungoverned space.
This is a reaction over the petrol tanker fire incident that led to to the death of seven people and loss of properties in the South Eastern state on Wednesday.

“Onitsha is an ungoverned space; divided by artificial boundaries of Local Governments, unattended to by a visionless State, lacking a coherent development plan, unloved by residents who lack a sense of community. The fire today is symptomatic of deep-seated urban challenges
“The markets shut down for prayers and sanitation. Can all the other markets shut down for an hour or two every week for fire drills? Can they arrange for a fire survey from Federal fire service and modify their market to enhance emergency response? Since government is MIA citizen response is required. I will engage the market leadership,” he wrote.
In his reaction, popular presenter, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu Last night was a lot. said we are on our own in the country.
“Last night was a lot. We really are on our own in this country… Those images from Onitsha are still so heartbreaking. May the departed Rest In Peace,” he tweeted.

I live in Onitsha because I was recently transfered to the place by my office. I hate everyday of my stay in that city. Ruled by touts, roads are bad, Landlords are mean, electricity supply is terrible. There is no joy in Onitsha. https://t.co/sO2s7cgJuA

Please if you can, reach out to the traders in Onitsha. Give them words of encouragement. Especially young traders!
As long as one is alive one can get come back. Fire outbreak is brutal especially in the market.

The more images of the inferno I see out of #Onitsha the more my heart bleeds. Nigeria is a death trap and our governors are the cheese.
How many fires have reduced families and traders to square one in Anambra in the last 10 years? And there is still no protocol?
Pure rage.

After the Onitsha fire yesterday, I still find it hard to believe that Anambra State does not have any fire fighting truck. If Nigeria was a sane place, Willie Obiano would have rendered his resignation letter this morning. Nonsense.
