“Onitsha is an ungoverned space; divided by artificial boundaries of Local Governments, unattended to by a visionless State, lacking a coherent development plan, unloved by residents who lack a sense of community. The fire today is symptomatic of deep-seated urban challenges

“The markets shut down for prayers and sanitation. Can all the other markets shut down for an hour or two every week for fire drills? Can they arrange for a fire survey from Federal fire service and modify their market to enhance emergency response? Since government is MIA citizen response is required. I will engage the market leadership,” he wrote.

“Last night was a lot. We really are on our own in this country… Those images from Onitsha are still so heartbreaking. May the departed Rest In Peace,” he tweeted.
