Arda Turan Slammed With Two-Year Sentence For Attack On Pop-Star

Barcelona midfielder, Arda Turan has been slammed with a two year and eight months sentence for firing a gun to incite fear and panic, illegal possession of weapons and causing intentional injury. He however won’t be serving any actual jail time.

The incident which led to the 32-year-old’s prison charge happened last year when he was at a hospital.

The Barcelona loanee was involved in a brawl with Turkish singer, Berkay Sahin on October 10, 2018.

The Turkish singer was then left with a broken nose after the public dispute. Arda Turan was thereafter reported to have come into the hospital with a gun that night, shooting at the ground to incite fear and panic.

Arda who is on loan to Turkish side, Istanbul Basaksehir was charged with sexual harassment against Sahin’s wife, carrying unlicensed weapons, intentional wounding, and shooting with a gun.

His Turkish side have long confirmed that they have fined the Turkey international 2.5 million Turkish lira (£350,648) for the incident, with the final hearing of the case heard in court on Wednesday.

The midfielder was acquitted but received a suspended two years, eight months and 15 days for his offence.

However, he won’t be serving any actual jail time and his sentence is suspended as long he has no legal concern for a period of five years.

Arda Turan via his Instagram account released a statement in respect to the incident. The statement read:

“I did not commit this ‘verbal harassment’ crime which even bothers me to speak of it.

“Nor is it possible. The headline of this event is that I’m acquitted of the charges of harassment; not the penalties I received for errors I made due to these slanders thrown at me.”

He made a switch to Barcelona from Atletico Madrid in 2015 for a fee of £30m and has since them made 50 appearances for the Catalan club across all competitions.
