Arsenal Sack Unai Emery

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery has been sacked following a series of bad results.

The former PSG gaffer has now left North London following the Gunners worst run of form since 1992. They have now gone seven games without a win and are eight points adrift of the top four in the Premier League.

In the meantime, Freddie Ljunberg will take over the reins at the Emirates Stadium. He will be in charge of the Arsenal squad that take a trip to Norwich City for their Premier League clash.

A 2-1 loss to Bundesliga side, Eintracht Frankfurt in their Europa League clash proved to be the last straw for Arsenal chiefs. The North London club’s hierarchy hoped they could wait till the end of the campaign to make a decision on Emery’s future. However, the disappointing loss to Frankfurt forced them to make a quick decision.

The Spanish boss faced countless criticisms during his time at Arsenal not just for the bad results but for the style which a large section of Arsenal’s fan base feel was too conservative.

Josh Kroenke speaking on behalf of Arsenal board and owners, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment said:

“Our most sincere thanks go to Unai and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their efforts to get the club back to competing at the level we all expect and demand. We wish Unai and his team nothing but future success.”

In his only full season at the Emirates, Emery led Arsenal to fifth place on the Premier League standings as a poor run of only two wins in their last seven games meant they were at risk of playing only Europa League football for a second year running.

They then squandered their Champions League qualification lifeline when they lost to Chelsea in the finals of the Europa League.

It is believed in most quarters that Emery can’t lead Arsenal to the heights it once maintained.

Massimiliano Allegri and Mikel Arteta are now being linked to the vacancy.
