Arsenal vs Liverpool – EPL October 2018 Match Preview and Scores

Match Preview

The premier league is back again this weekend as Arsenal are set to welcome high-flyers Liverpool to the Emirates on Saturday, in what is expected to be a scintillating encounter. It is a battle between 2nd and 5th on the table and both will be loooking to come out with a win.

Team News

Arsenal

The Gunners are in a good run presently. Unbeaten in 13 games in all competition is no child’s play. They have been able to organise properly and play the way Unai Emery requests of them.

They have won all seven of their home games in all competitions, since their opening-day defeat to Man City! They have also not been beaten by a visiting team other than the Premier League champions since February’s Europa League defeat to Ostersunds.

Arsenal coach Unai Emery

The visit of Liverpool is a good marker to rate how much the Gunners have improved and how much their resolve is to challenge for silverware this term.

There are some negatives in Arsenal’s play though. They have conceded more goals than any other team in the top seven of the table, and there are lingering concerns that they have got off lightly by only conceding 13 goals from their 10 matches so far. A team with the attacking talents of Liverpool seem well equipped to expose some of the flaws which have perhaps previously gone unpunished.

Hector Bellerin is out injured and Stephan Lichsteiner who was on target for Arsenal midweek is set to replace him. Matteo Guendouzi was red-carded against Blackpool and so Aaron Ramsey might step in. Alex Lacazette, Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil were rested midweek so they could face Liverpool.

Arsenal could field the following team…

Leno; Lichtsteiner, Holding, Mustafi, Xhaka; Torreira, Ramsey; Iwobi, Ozil, Aubameyang; Lacazette

Liverpool

Liverpool have enjoyed great success in all competition this season. From getting drawn against Paris Saint German and Napoli in champions league, they have shown they can compete at the highest level.

They have also conceded just 4 goals in their opening 10 games in the premier league this season, which is the loweat ever for them at this stage.

Mohammed Salah in action for Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has also started proving wrong all of “one-season wonder” claims with four goals in his last three games, and he also contributed a couple of assists during last weekend’s 4-1 victory over Cardiff City.

Now they sit joint-top on the table with Manchester City. The Reds have drawn Chelsea and beaten Tottenham and so will be looking to cause Arsenal some problems.

Jordan Henderson amd Naby Keita are not back from the sidelines yet. Andrew Robertson, James Milner and Joe Gomez should be brought back into the side after being rested over the weekend. Salah has seemed to get his mojo back with 4 goals in the last 3 games scored.

Liverpool team to face Arsenal….

Alisson; Gomez, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Milner, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane

Head To Head

Arsenal are winless in their last six Premier League clashes with Liverpool since a 4-1 victory in April 2015. Jurgen Klopp has also won all 5 previous premier league meetings with Arsenal.
