Arsenal Vs Manchester United FA Cup 25 January Review

A match-up described in pre-match talks and sports analysis as a tough fixture was played at the Emirates between Arsenal and Manchester United. However, it wasn’t as cagey as thought. The red devils made light work of their counterparts thumping them to a 3-1 defeat.

Both sides fielded a strong XI with Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku returning to the Starting XI for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

That said, it wasn’t until the 20th-minute that the game opened up. Alex Iwobi tried Sergi Roberto with the goal keeper showing how good of a shot stopper he is. On the other end, Paul Pogba failed to poke in a cross from Jesse Lingard.

Soon after, on the 30th-minute mark, United took the lead via a Sanchez ball after being played on by a Lukaku pass. The Chilean rounded the ball past goalkeeper Petr Cech before firing it home for his side to take the lead but chose not to celebrate a goal against his former side.

Lukaku made another move to take his side two goals up when he set up Jesse Lingard for an easy finish.

Just before the half-hour, Arsenal struck back when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang slotted the ball in for a cool finish after receiving an Aaron Ramsey’s cross.

Half time!

Half time resumed with Arsenal on the front foot. They created lots of chances but failed to capitalize on any of them. However some minutes after, there was a bit of drama when Lukaku unintentionally stepped on Laurent Koscielny’s head delaying the game for about five minutes – the defender was later reported to have sustained a jaw injury.

Substitutions were soon made with Mesut Ozil and Guendouzi coming in for Kosciely and Iwobi.

After few minutes of play, Solskjaer responded by bringing on youngsters Rashford and Martial with the substitutions paying off.

Manchester United started a counter-attacking run with Paul Pogba trying a shot at Petr Cech. The retiring keeper parried the ball into the path of Anthony Martial with the youngster poking home an easy finish.

United will now progress to the fifth round of the cup.
