Arsenal vs Tottenham – EFL Cup 2018 Preview and Scores

Match Preview

Arsenal are set to host high flying Tottenham Hotspur in the Quater finals of the EFL Cup at the Emirates stadium.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham have made it clear that they would like to challenge for all trophies possible – this is good because the blistering forms of both Liverpool and Manchester City will make it almost impossible for neither to win the premier league.

Arsenal

Arsenal have already laid down the gauntlet by defeating their bitter rivals 4-2 just three weeks ago in the Premier League, and they will look to do it all over again at the Emirates Stadium when they welcome their North London rivals in the EFL Cup.

It was an epic match in North London as the Gunners came roaring back to beat their neighbours in thrilling fashion on that occasion and a repeat on Wednesday will see them through to the semi-finals of the competition.

Although they are coming into the match off the back of a shock 3-2 defeat at Southampton at the weekend – a result which ended their 22-game unbeaten run across all competitions. Unai Emery will be very wary of this Tottenham side who can cause problems in all departments of the Arsenal make up.

Arsenal Team News

Mavropanos, Rob Holding, Smith-Rowe , Hector Bellerin, Danny Wellbeck and Saed Kolasinac are all injured and will not be available for this match. This means that Laurent Koscielny will likely be called up a d Nacho Monreal will partner with him.

Mesut Ozil, Alex Lacazette and Aubameyang are all fit and this should give a huge boost to Unai Emery.

Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino is yet to win any silverware as Tottenham manager and defeating Arsenal at the Emirates will be the latest step in finally breaking that jinx. Infact, Tottenham as a team have not won any silverware since 2008 and the club chiefs will be desperate to change that.

The 4-2 loss against Arsenal in the premier league was their only  loss in 11 games in all competitions, which included 9 wins on the pop. This means Mauricio Pochettino could see this match as a “revenge” fixture and treat it as such.

Tottenham Hotspur defeated Burnley 1-0 at Wembley last weekend and they lie 3rd on the premier league table, two points above london rivals Chelsea in a bitter battle for top four. Arsenal lie 5th place on the table, 3 points behind Chelsea and 5 points behind Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News

Eric Dier, Moussa Dembele, Victor Wanyama, Vincent Janssen and Jan Ventonghen are all out injured, creating a selection worry for Poch as he would be forced to rotate his team.

Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Son Heung-min could all start, then, while Christian Eriksen may also be involved after coming off the bench to score the late winner against Burnley at the weekend

Kieran Trippier may be afforded a rest with Kyle Walker-Peters hoping for a start, and Harry Winks is also in contention to feature after being left on the bench on Saturday.

Head To Head

Arsenal and Spurs have met 183 times in official competitions, with Arsenal winning 77 games, Spurs 57, and the sides sharing 49 draws.

The last time the two sides met, Arsenal edged Spurs 4-2 in the league back on 2 December.
