At Least 12 People Dead In Inferno In London

At least 12 people have been confirmed dead in an inferno that ripped a London apartment tower. In the incident which developed in the early hours of Wednesday, scores of residents have received medical attention with fewer numbers in critical condition according to reports filtering in from the NHS. As of the time of compiling this report, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained although it is suspected that the building may have been dilapidated and scheduled for inspection.

In his reaction, the London Mayor, Sadiq Khan could be seen urging men of the London Fire Emergency to do the best and try to quench the inferno. Though, it is worrisome that this is the 3rd major incidence happening in London this year after the recent terrorist attack that claimed little less than a dozen lives in the heart of London. Also, we cannot easily forget the terrorist bombing at Ariana Grande’s concert in Manchester which was widely condemned globally.

Over 200 firefighters, supported by 40 fire engines struggled for hours to try to douse the flame. According to them, the flame was one of the greatest seen in recent times. The Police Commander Stuart Cundy stated that a recovery operation might take a lot of time and there were still people in the building who were unaccounted for. He however mentioned that he was not sure of the exact figure.

Reports had it that the fire fighter crews still had to get to the top floors of the building where hundreds of people live in 130 apartments. The block of apartments which had recently undergone renovation had plumes of black smoke billowing high into the air across the British Capital several hours after the fire broke out.
