Audu Maikori Wins N10 Million Lawsuit Against Kaduna State Government

Chief Executive Officer of Chocolate City, Audu Maikori on Friday June 5, has won his lawsuit filed against the Kaduna state government over the violation of his human rights.

The Chocolate City CEO filed a N10 billion lawsuit against Governor Nasir El-Rufai and the state government in 2017, accusing them of violating his human rights following his arrest after he reported the purported killing of five College of Education students in Southern Kaduna.

Maikori later apologized for posting the false story which he said was relayed to him by his driver. He was then arrested and subsequently transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja for interrogation following a petition filed by the Kaduna State Government. He was eventually released on bail and cleared.

However, Maikori was rearrested and taken to Kaduna where he was detained for four days before being charged to court.  He was later granted bail by the court on health grounds.

The record label boss then filed a fundamental human rights enforcement counter-lawsuit against the state government.

He has now been awarded damages of N10.5m by a three-man panel of the court who unanimously upheld the ruling of the Federal High Court holding the actions of the Kaduna State Government as unlawful and unconstitutional.

Audu Maikori has also confirmed the court judgement by retweeting some posts on Twitter including Elnathan John’s.
