Barcelona Vs Leganes – 20th January Match Review

Goals from Ousmane Dembele, Luis Suarez and a rarely seen right-footed goal from Lionel Messi – after having come on for the Catalans in the second half – were enough for Barcelona to sink Leganes, leaving them five points atop the Liga table.

Ousmane Dembele put up a fine performance once more as he got the first goal for the Catalans. The youngster has previously faced criticisms for a lack of discipline but has come off that to become unarguably Barcelona’s best player – after Lionel Messi – in recent games.

The pacey forward was the focal point of an attack that was lacking the genius of Messi. He didn’t squash under the responsibility as he latched on to a low cross from Jordi Alba to get the first goal for the Catalans just before half-time.

With the second-half in full-flight, Barcelona were stunned when Martin Braithwaite got the equalizer. They didn’t expect the goal. At least not so soon.

All heads would now turn to Leo to inspire the comeback and he did just that! Valverde brought in Messi in the 63rd-minute in a bid to grab all three points available.

Arthur Melo made way for the Argentine while Carles Alena went off for Croatian midfielder, Ivan Rakitic.

Barcelona’s fortunes however soon went South when injury to Dembele had to see the youngster go off for Malcolm.

Nevertheless, that didn’t deter the La Liga leaders as Messi’s powerful shot went in from a Luis Suarez rebound who reacted instinctively for his 15th of the season.

One minute into seven minutes added time. It was Lionel Messi once more as a quick one-two combination between he and Jordi Alba saw Leganes defense split into halves.

Leganes defenders turned on-lookers as the quick exchange saw Messi curl the ball with his weaker right foot. He had such guts.

Leganes tweeted via their handle – “Barcelona 3-1 Leganes, that guy”. Guess what? We all know the guy.

This was Barca’s seventh straight win.
