Bayern President Says Bayern Stars Will Boycott German National Team If Neuer is Benched For Ter Stegen

Bayern Munich President, Uli Hoeness has sent a note of warning to Germany, warning them against replacing Manuel Neuer with Marc Andre Ter Stegen.

Hoeness stated that he would keep Bayern Munich stars from joining the German National Team should Ter Stegen be adopted as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper.

The Barcelona goalie has a made a strong case for himself with his recent performances in Barcelona. Consequently, many can’t see why Neuer should be given the nod over him.

The 27-year-old was condemned to the bench as Germany lost by a 4-2 scoreline to the Netherlands before going on to beat Northern Ireland 2-0 in their Euro 2020 qualifying encounters.

Arguably the world best goalkeeper at the moment, Ter Stegen voiced out his concerns over continuously being condemned to the bench. The 27-year-old who seemed very grieved said he had done his possible best to break into Joachim Low’s team all to no avail.

There have been back lashes here and there on social media between the two goalkeepers ever since. However, Hoeness dismissed the notion that Neuer could soon be disposed from the National team.

In his interview with Sport Bild, he said : “We would never accept that [Ter Stegen replacing Neuer as No.1]. [If Bayern are informed of the change] before it happens, we won’t send any players to the national team anymore.”

The German outfit then asked Germany’s football team technical director Oliver Bierhoff if he was concerned by comments made by Bayern Chief to which he responded: “No. And according to FIFA rules, a club is obliged to send their players to the national team anyway.”

Marc Andre Ter Stegen has been in great form for club this term, notably keeping out Borussia Dortmund in their UEFA Champions League Group Stage fixture.

In spite of this impressive performances, he has only managed 22 caps since he made his debut for Die Manschafft in 2012.
