Biography of Kcee
Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo popularly known as Kcee is a Nigerian afrobeat singer, songwriter and performer. He was formerly in the Hip Hop duo group called Kc Presh. He’s popular for his 2013 R&B/Soul hit single, Limpopo.
Early life and background of Kcee
Kcee was born on the 18th of April 1979, in Ajegunle, Lagos, Nigeria to late Mr Okonkwo who was a disc jockey (DJ). The Anambra-state born was raised in Lagos state and he is the elder brother of E-Money. He attended Tolu Primary School and bagged a degree in Theater Arts from the University of Nsukka. His childhood dream was to become a professional footballer as he played for Julius Berger and Puma football clubs locally.
His Rise to Fame
Like most of his contemporaries, Kcee started out as part of a group. He actually kick-started his musical career with his longtime friend and partner Presh (real name- Precious John) the duo formed a musical group known as KC Presh. Initially, his family weren’t supportive of his music career but that didn’t deter him from his dream. They played as a duo for twelve years. Kcee and Presh met in the church choir, they contested for the Star Quest TV reality show together and won the show. As winners of the show, they earned a four years’ music contract with Kennis Music and a cheque of one million Naira. The win brought them to limelight and paved a path for their music career.
Their performance at the show earned them several awards such as Best Akwa Cross Artist (2006), The Most Promising Act (2002), Best Collaboration, Best South-South Artist (Niger-Delta, 2006) and others. The duo has performed alongside great Nigerian artists such as Oliver D Conque, Femi Kuti, and Lagbaja. They’ve featured in tours and events like 4 Christ Sake, Nescafé Valentine Show, Play Safe Rave Tour, AMAA awards and Calabar awards. Kc Presh released over 40 songs including Joyful noise, Ginga your swagga, shokori bobo and many others.
After being together for 12 years, the duo split and decided to pursue their solo careers in 2011. Kcee is signed under the Five-Star Music record label. He has worked with Harrysong, Davido, E-Money, Skibii and so many others. In 2013, he released his hit single titled “Limpopo” which topped many music charts in Nigeria and other African continents. Kcee released “Sweet Mary J” which was his first single in 2020.

Kcee’s Relationship and Family Life
Kcee has always been private about his personal life. Recently, it was discovered that he was married to Cynthia Ijeoma Okonkwo and they’ve been married for 10 years. It’s reported that they have two kids together. The Limpopo crooner is alleged to be romantically involved with two women. One of them is his ex girlfriend, actress, Ebube Nwagbo. Kcee and Ebube ended the relationship upon his marriage to his wife. It’s been rumoured that they never broke it off. The singer fueled the rumour as he kept his marriage secret for 9 years.
There are speculations that he once dated Anita Joseph. The hit maker and his wife recently welcomed a baby boy on his wife’s birthday.
In a post shared via his Instagram page on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, the singer announced the arrival of the baby boy.
When counting the luckiest people on earth I count myself first, my wife just gave birth to a bouncing baby boy (King Kwemtochukwu Okonkwo) today which happens to be her birthday,” he wrote.
