Biography of Ladipoe

Ladipo Eso known professionally as Ladipoe or Poe is a Nigerian rapper and recording artiste signed to Mavin Records. He rose to prominence as an affiliate of rap duo, ShowDemCamp (SDC). Known for his unflinching flow and technical skill as a rapper, Poe is being compared to artists like J. Cole and Drake by fans and critics. He became a breakout star with hit single “Adore her”.

Early life and background of Poe

Ladipoe was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. He had his primary and secondary education there before proceeding to University of North Carolina at Pembroke to obtain a degree in Biology and Chemistry. While studying at the university, he developed interest in music and co-founded the group Lyrically Equipped with his friends Jeffrey and Kurt. He adopted the name “Poe” because his roommate back in school couldn’t pronounce his name well and since then the name have stuck.

His Rise to Fame

After graduation, his mother introduced him to a guy named Tec from a group called SDC. He exhibited his lyrical prowess in SDC’s hit song titled “Feel Alright” which was nominated for Best Alternative Song of the Year (2013) at Nigeria’s foremost music award show, The Headies.

On 28 February 2017, Poe got signed to Mavin Records alongside Korede Bello and Reekado Banks. This signing marked a turning point in Poe’s career, but an even more significant one for the biggest record label in Africa – he became their first rap act since re-branding in 2012 from Mo’Hits. Poe recorded his first single “Man Already” under the record label. He was inspired by groups like Little Brother, Slum Village, and Lupe. He also released a new single “Jaiye” in March 2019. He has worked with several of the best names in African music, including rappers like Ice Prince and Reminisce, producers like Juls, Ikon and Spax, and singers Seyi Shay and Niyola.

Following the success of his first two singles under Mavin Records, Poe released his much-anticipated debut album, Talk About Poe (T.A.P). The album is a fusion of rap, dancehall, new highlife (palm-wine) and hip-hop. The wordsmith built his reputation as one of the best emcees by delivering killer verses on features.

On April 10, 2020, Ladipoe released his first single for the year featuring Simi – “Know you”. The song focuses on intimacy and the topics of seduction and sensuality. Poe is set to take Nigerian music to the next level – one witty lifeline at a time
