Biography of Lizzy Jay AKA Adeyela Adebola

Adeyela Adebola popularly known as Lizzy Jay or Omo Ibadan is a Nigerian comedienne, host, singer and model. She is the CEO of Omo Ibadan Cosin Senta, a principal comedy skit show which has attained virality on social media, transcending language and cultural barriers.

Early life and background of Lizzy Jay

Lizzy Jay was born on the 18th of September, 1995 in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. Her father is a politician and her mum is a federal worker. She had both her primary and secondary education in Osun state. She attended the School of Science, Ile-Ife, Osun State, for her post-elementary education.
The fair-skinned comedienne bagged her National Diploma Certificate from Ede Polytechnic before proceeding to earn a degree in microbiology from The Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo state.

When asked in an interview about her childhood experiences, she revealed:

“I didn’t grow up in an expensive neighbourhood; though it wasn’t also a ghetto. There were a lot of children in the compound where I grew up and we used to play a lot. My nickname as a child was Sibi Onike (plastic spoon) and I would tell you the story behind it. Whenever it was time to go to school, I always found one reason or the other why I could not go because I hated school as a kid. I used to cry whenever they wanted to take me to school and I would tell my mum that I wanted plastic spoon, and whenever she gave me that, I would tell her that I wanted an iron spoon. Even when she gave me the iron spoon, I would reject it again and say I wanted plastic spoon”.

“I also had another nickname, Bola on the mango tree. I remember that my mum bought me a dress with the inscription, ‘Bom’ and the elderly ones around used to joke that the Bom was an abbreviation for Bola on the mango tree. I had a lot of fun as a child and sometimes, I wish I could go back to being a kid.”

As a child, Lizzy Jay’s dream was to be a medical doctor. Having a penchant for making people happy, she wanted to save lives by finding cures to diseases but fate had better things in store for her. According to her, comedy is still in line with her goals because she makes people happy with her jokes.

Her Rise to Fame

She made a foray into comedy while seeking admission into tertiary institution. Having being denied admission to study Microbiology at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, boredom set in with different thoughts running through her mind. She decided to put her thoughts into skits; that saw her uploading comedy skits online. Prior to that time, Due to her carefree and funny nature, Lizzy Jay had lots of fans on Facebook who were always looking forward to her updates. She uploaded her first comedy skit “how girls from different states sleep” in May 2017.

Lizzy Jay rose to stardom with I109-attention skit. She was ill when she recorded the skit and uploaded it on facebook. While in the hospital, the video got traction and became viral on social media platforms. The versatile artiste who has many sides to her also performs stand-up comedy; her comedy style is likened to stage drama, with a coaching centre theme where the audience plays the students.

Having gained popularity and recognition, she launched Omo Ibadan Cosin Senta Concept, a series which centres around a dumb head teacher teaching ignorant students, just because she believes teaching is the only means of livelihood. The ignorant but self determined parents will go any length to ensure their wards are educated. The dumb teacher takes advantage of their naivety to scam the entire community, creating the impression that she’s a teacher. Unknowingly to the parents, the so called Omo Ibadan is just a dumb head.

The Osun state born who is adept at speaking the Ibadan accent initially delved into comedy for fun but later realized it’s worthwhile as she’s been invited to host events, shows and run advertisements for brands. She made her acting debut in 2019 and has since featured in quite number of movies. As a singer, she released her single “Gidi gan” featuring Demmie Vee.

The comic sensation was unveiled as brand ambassador for Midea group in May, 2019. The endorsement came about as a result of her hilarious acts which aligns with the objective of the brand to make life pleasant for families through technological innovation.

Lizzy Jay is currently single. She once stated that she relates well with the men folks but no strings attached as she believes that “many are men, a few are husbands”.
