Early life and background of Mary Lazarus
Mary Lazarus was born on the 5th of May, 1989 into a family of nine of which she is a twin and one of the last born children of the family, alongside her twin brother named Joseph. Hailing from Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia state, Mary had her primary and secondary education in her birthplace. After completing her secondary education, she proceeded to bag a degree in Geography from the University of Ibadan.

Prior to acting, the beautiful actress worked as a model. She has modelled for MTN, GLO, Airtel, Samsung, Maltonic, Pampers and many more. Mary also worked with Bi-Courtney Aviation Services and Briscoe Toyota for a short while.
She ventured into the Nigerian movie industry in 2009 with an acting debut in movie “Waiting years”. She got the movie role through the help of Gbenro Ajibade who introduced her to the director of the aforementioned movie. This brought her to prominence and since then she’s featured in several movies like Losing control, Blackberry Babes, Tinsel, Super Story, Shadows, Married But Living Single, Okafor’s law, Love lost, Accidental affair, Clustered colours among others.
She has acted alongside John Dumelo, Ken Erics, Yul Edochie, Majid Michel and other top Nollywood celebrities. Mary Lazarus has mastered the craft of interpreting roles and characters in movies. In 2017, the sultry actress made her directorial debut in movie Dance to my beat. In an interview with the Vanguard Newspaper, she named Nollywood veteran actresses Omotola Jalade Ekeinde and Joke Silva as her role models in the Nigerian movie industry.
She also mentioned American actress Kimberly Elise as someone who she admire her work. The former model who is fast becoming a household name in Nollywood believes in keeping it real not just in interpreting her roles, but also in real life. She stated in an interview:
“Being in the public eye has taught me to always want to be myself because you cannot please everybody. Mary Lazarus is Mary Lazarus everywhere. I don’t try to be who I am not. I am just myself.
