Biography of Nedu Wazobia AKA Chinedu Emmanuel

Chinedu Ani Emmanuel popularly known as Nedu Wazobia is a Nigerian comedian, on-air personality, broadcast journalist, TV presenter, actor and content creator. Famous for his pidgin rendition of the daily news on popular radio station Wazobia FM 94.1 Lagos, Nedu has also carved a niche for himself as the landlord of funny relatable skits.

Early life and background of Nedu Wazobia 

Nedu was born on the 5th of August, 1982 in Kaduna, Nigeria. After completing his primary and secondary education, he proceeded to study accountancy at Madonna University, Elele Okija, Anambra state. While serving in Jigawa, he worked in a radio station as an on-air personality. On completion of his National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), he moved back to Abuja to work as a site manager, a job which he proved to be unproductive. After 2 years of working as a site manager, he relocated to Lagos to kick-start his broadcasting career.

His Rise to Fame

Nedu’s name and face are parallel with hilarious content on the internet. From comedy to broadcasting to presenting and to acting, the charming man has conquered frontiers in the media. His creative flexibility and ability to adapt has made him relevant over the years. The humorous personality can read news in pidgin English. According to him, it is a way of “spicing up regular and boring news”. The content creator revealed that he’s easily bored hence his portrayal of multiple personalities in his videos and skits.

Our name in Nigeria is ‘on to the next’ because you might love something now and the next month something else is out. For instance, I ran with Sister Nkechi for a year and felt people had seen enough hence the creation of the Landlord character. The people loved this new character and then we brought Alhaji Musa before moving to Officer Jato. It is always about giving people different shades at different times.”

His initial alter ego, Sister Nkechi was inspired by Tyler Perry’s Madea. The media personality seamlessly switches between accents during interview moving from Queens English, pidgin English and even the occasional infusion of Igbo leaving everyone entertained.

Nedu Wazobia has featured in various Nollywood movies like Chief Daddy, Meet the in-laws, Lagos Real Fake Life, King of Boys amongst others.

As a brand influencer, he has bagged quite a number of endorsements deals with corporate brands like MTN, Fidelity Bank, Quickteller and Sun Lottery. In January 2020, Nedu was unveiled as the Chief auctioneer at Computervillage.ng New Year Auction sales bazaar campaign.

The popular comedian was once married to Uzoamaka Ohiri, in 2013. They had three children together before their split in 2019. In April 2019, he secretly married his girlfriend, Funmi Omolabake aka, Funmi Endowed.

He was nominated for the most talented male at Social Media Awards 2018 (Maiden Edition).
