Biography of Uti Nwachukwu

Uti Nwachukwu is a Nigerian TV presenter, event compere, actor, model, musician, philanthropist and winner of the Big Brother Africa – All-Stars reality show. He owns Kenzie’s beard essential, a grooming product for men. The successful actor has proven to be talented in many fields. There’s no doubt he’s a whirlpool of success and inspiration to Nigerian youths.

Early life and background of Uti Nwachukwu

Uti Nwachukwu was born on the 3rd of August, 1982 in Ughelli, but raised in Sapele, a small town in Delta State. Hailing from  Aboh Kingdom, Ndokwa-East local government area of Delta State, Uti is the last child of the family. After completing his primary school education, he proceeded to Igbinedion Education centre for his secondary education. He obtained a diploma degree in Computer Science and Education from the University of Nsukka, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the Benson Idahosa University, Benin City.

As a child, Uti was highly talented and outspoken. He was a prankster who enjoyed making fun of his friends and family. He was highly respected among his peers and  known as the initiative child who always had the craziest ideas. The popular Jara presenter was known to be a rule breaker; he often convince his friends and siblings to break rules as well.

 His Rise to Fame

He rose to prominence after emerging the winner of  the All-Stars season of Big Brother Africa in 2010. Prior to his win, he had featured on the Nigerian reality TV show, the Next Movie Star, where he came second. He once had a brief stint as an accountant in a bank before participating in reality shows.

In 2008, he contested in the Big Brother Africa 3 reality show and was the third housemate to be evicted. On the pedestal of gaining huge fan base, he returned to the house in 2010 and emerged the winner of the show. After that, his life went uphill. He started getting movie roles and featuring in movies and music. He has featured in several movies like The Changer, Finding Mercy, In the Cupboard, Broken Silence, Weekend Getaway, Deep Inside amongst others. As a host, he has hosted a number of reputable shows like Exquisite Awards, Soundcity Music Video Awards, City Peoples Fashion Awards and Children of Haggai Charity Show.

His Music Career

Uti also made a foray into music. He released his debut single, Go Down in 2010. The next year saw him releasing his second single  titled “Once In My Life” which was critically acclaimed. The single went on to clinch award for the Best Soft Rock/ Alternative Video at the Nigerian Music Awards in November 2011.

Controversies

Controversies are synonymous with celebrities. He once suffered backlash for declaring Cee C the most successful Big Brother Naija housemate. Uti was rumoured to be gay and in a relationship with Alex Ekubo. He had come out to dispel such rumours. The dark-skinned actor was speculated to be the father of Tboss’ child. He has since refute the claims.

His Philanthropic Works

In 2011, Uti launched the Uti Leads the Stars charity project which caters for the needs of widows.  The organization conduct an outreach every year. He worked in collaboration with the European Union and the British Council to raise awareness of the stigma of rape. Uti has been able to bring its Sexual Assault Referral Centers (SARC) to different states across Nigeria.
