Biography of Wofai Fada AKA Wofai Ewa

Wofai Egu Ewa popularly known as Wofai Fada is a Nigerian comedienne, TV presenter, actress and entrepreneur. Boasting of over 900,000 followers, she has made her mark in the entertainment industry with her hilarious skits.

Early life and background of Wofai Fada

Wofai Fada was born on the 11th of May 1990 in Cross Rivers, Nigeria as the third child in a family of five children. After completing her elementary education in Calabar, she proceeded to Federal Government Girls’ College for her secondary education. The online sensation obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Media studies from the University of Calabar.

As a child, Wofai had always admired the presenters on the Nigerian Television Authority station so she decided she was going to be a journalist. Meanwhile, her dad wanted her to be a Medical doctor. This saw her seating for university matriculation examination (UTME) thrice with no success. She concluded she was going to study Law but fate had better things in store for her as she ended up in the media sector.

Her Rise to Fame

Having a funny demeanor, her friends advised her to record some of her jokes – this saw her releasing online skits in 2014 as a casual hobby which turned out to be a career. In an interview with Punch, she was asked her first pay as a comedian, she stated:

The first amount I was paid as a comedian was N30,000 by Closeup tooth paste. They sent me an email that I should do something for them. I was just laughing because I didn’t understand the power of social media then. At that time, I was just doing my thing. I didn’t even bargain, I collected the money and said to myself that I was going to continue this work”.

According to her, her biggest achievement was hosting the Lord of the Ribs show in Chicago. She also stated her fear for stand-up comedy as it’s spontaneous. Wofai Fada has worked alongside other top comedians like Craze Clown, AphricanApe 06, EmmaOhMaGod and others. Her first hosting gig was at MTN Lovers Ball in 2015. She’s also a TV presenter with Ebony Life El Rated.
As a fast rising actress, she has featured in My Flatmates, Wedding party 2, Brother Jekwu amongst others. In my flatmates, she starred as Sandra Samuel in the popular Africa Magic sitcom which depicts the everyday lives of friends living together.

She plans to start her own TV show, Wofai Show soon. The social media influencer co-hosted the Rhythm of Love show alongside Peteru in June 2017. In November 2017, DJ Lambo in partnership with Lagos state, Jollof Network and Tell Entertainment had a free concert in computer village, Lagos. This show was hosted my Wofai, she was on stage alongside M.I, Skales and Yung L. In an attempt to raise awareness and curb the spread of malaria, The Joyful Joy Foundation organised an event called Laugh Fest in December 2017 with Wofai Fada performing alongside other A-list celebrities. Genevieve Magazine featured her and other renowned celebs like Actress Linda Ejiofor, Media Personality Bolanle Olukanni in its bridal issue.

Her Entrepreneurial Exploits

Aside being an entertainer, the TV presenter has shown her entrepreneurial skill by launching her restaurant, Just Afang in 2018. According to her, opening a restaurant in one of Nigeria’s biggest cities at the age of 28 was something she never knew she could achieve. Opening her own food business was a dream come true for Wofai Fada. The idea of opening a eatery was birthed from a situation she was in. Being an indigene of Calabar, she had penchant for cooking which makes her friends come visiting often.

That fateful day, her friends came visiting hoping to eat Afang soup but alas, she didn’t cook the meal so they gave her money to cook for them. And that was how the idea of owning her restaurant spring forth. This saw her partnering with Monkey Media Group who set up a website for online orders and delivery. The business has been flourishing since then. Her early beginnings saw her do all kinds of menial jobs. On her path to fame, she hawked ice cream, sold fairly used clothes and ushered at social events. Her resilient attitude made her push harder till her breakthrough came.

Controversy

Wofai who claims to be master of all trades and entrepreneurs isn’t new to controversies. She was once accused of doing runs in the past. At the 2017 edition of Soundcity MVP Awards, she made a scantily-clad appearance on the red carpet of the event. This got tongues wagging as many deem her appearance as grossly indecent for an event like that. She’s soaring above the controversies. Wofai never stop flaunting her body on social media page.

Not much is known about Wofai Fada’s personal life, as she keeps them away from the preying eyes of the public. According to her, she is open to dating as long as she isn’t married.
