Boko Haram Troops Attacks Military Base And IDP Camps In Borno State

A military base and few IDP camps in Rann, Borno state yesterday January 14, were attacked by Boko Haram members.

The Boko Haram members attacked the military base and the IDP camps in Rann, Borno state at about 5:20 pm. It was also noted that the Boko Haram members attacked them with various sophisticated weapons.

He also added that air force jets and troops were forced to withdraw from the scene of the fight owing to poor visibility because of the seasonal Harmattan winds in the state and around the region of the military base and some of the IDP camps in Rann.

A military and humanitarian source gave a statement which read:

“The terrorists took over a military position in Rann following heavy fighting,” he said on condition of anonymity. Poor visibility because of seasonal Harmattan winds hampered the deployment of air force jets, and troops were forced to withdraw.  The terrorists went about setting fire to camps and shelters of IDPs. Most people have fled the town into the bush but we have no details of casualties at the moment.” a military source said.

The IDP camps in Rann, Borno state, presently hosts about 35,000 internally displaced people (IDP), with the International Organization for Migration stating the fact. The attack by Boko Haram members happened some 175 kilometres northeast of the Borno state capital in Maiduguri.

The attack by Boko Haram members in Rann and the military base forced some civilians to move away from the scene. A statement read that the Boko Haram members set fire to shelters for the Internally Displaced People homes causing panic among them.

According to a military personnel, he claimed that the Boko Haram members took over a military position in Rann following a series of increased fighting around that region. However, no casualties have been reported so far after the incident yesterday.
