Brazilian Judge Orders Netflix to Take Down ‘Gay Jesus’ Movie

Netflix has been ordered by a Brazilian judge, Benedicto Abicair to stop showing the film depicting Jesus as a gay man.

This movie got a lot of backlash on social media after its release last year. It also prompted a gasoline bomb attack on the production company behind the film. The movie was produced by Rio-based film, Porta dos Fundos, Brazil.

The ruling by Rio de Janeiro judge, Benedicto Abicair, on Wednesday responded to a petition by a Brazilian Catholic organization that argued that the “honor of millions of Catholics was hurt by the film. .

The judge also argue that the film’s withdrawal “is beneficial not only to the Christian community, but to Brazilian society which is mostly Christian.”
