1. FG Borrows N6.16tn from Worker’s N8.499tn Pension Fund

The FG has borrowed 72.5% of N8.49tn of workers pension under the Contributory Pension Scheme as at November 2018.

The National Pension Commission reports on Tuesday that the said 72.5% or N6.16tn was invested by the FG in the FGN Securities.

The Pension Fund Administrators, PFAs also invested 6.87% or N584.321bn of the fund in domestic ordinary shares, while 0.71% or N60.529bn of the fund was invested in foreign ordinary shares.

According to the Pension Reform Act, the PFAs manage the funds which are in the custody of the Pension Fund Custodians.

2. Jimoh Moshood Removed, Police Names New PRO

Former Police spokesman, Frank Mba, ACP, has been named the new force Public Relations Officer.

Mba replaced the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood.

Mba studied law at the University of Lagos, and was called to the Nigerian bar in 2002.

Former Police spokesman, Frank Mba, ACP, has been named the new force Public Relations Officer.

The new police spokesman hails from Ezimo in Udenu LGA of Enugu State. He was the best graduating cadet inspector in academics at the Police Academy, Kano in 1993.

He was promoted to assistant superintendent of police in 1999, deputy superintendent of police in 2003, superintendent of police in 2006 and chief superintendent of police in 2012.

3. Buhari Unaware of CJN Onnoghen’s Trial until Saturday -Osinbajo

VP Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday claimed that president Buhari was not in the know of the plans to arraign the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN Walter Onnoghen until Saturday evening.

Osinbajo disclosed this at the conference of Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN) in Abuja.

According to him, Buhari never had any fact of financial misdemeanor involving the CJN until Saturday evening.

Osibanjo went on to say that the situation was a sad one.

He said, “I feel very sad that is going on at all”.

4. I Must Privatize NNPC – Atiku Abubakar

The presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday ascribed the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to a “Mafia organization.”

He spoke during an interactive session with the Lagos business community.

The former Vice President vowed to privatise the Corporation if elected in the forthcoming election even if it kills him.

According to Abubakar, the Corporation would operate better if it were managed by the private sector.

5. CCB Formally Serves CJN Onnoghen

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has re-served the criminal charges on false asset declaration directly to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen.

This is in preparation for his arraignment on January 22, 2019 at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

It was reported that at the hearing on Monday, a clerk of the Tribunal, following a query from the Chairman, Danladi Umar, confirmed that the charge was received on behalf of the CJN, by one Sunday O. Osai who was identified as his personal assistant.

He then applied to be allowed to effect another service of the charge on Justice Onnoghen.

A reliable source confirmed that the CJN has been served personally on Monday 14, January 2019 by 3.30pm in his office at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Abuja.

6. Saraki Speaks on the CJN Onnoghen Situation During Senate Resumption

During the senate resumption on Tuesday, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki advised the President Buhari’s government to respect other arms of government.

He said separation of powers must be honoured as spelt out in the constitution.

Saraki also warned that any onslaught against the judiciary will be resisted.

7. Nigeria’s Ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire Dies

Foreign Affairs Ministry has announced that Nigeria’s Ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire, Amb. Ibrahim Isah, has died.

Sources from the Nigerian Embassy at Deux Plateau, Abidjan, revealed that Isah, aged 60, died at 7p.m. on Tuesday.

The sources said he slumped and died at the Polyclinique Internationale Sainte Anne-Marie (PISAM) where he had gone for treatments.

8. Imo APC Commences Contempt Proceedings against Oshiomole

The Imo state chapter of the APC, led by Daniel Nwafor onWednesday said a contempt proceedings has commenced against the National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomole.

Nwafor disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri, at the party’s secretariat.

According to him, Oshiomole disregarded valid court judgment which affirmed him (Nwafor) the APC Chairman in Imo State.

He also announced the suspension of Mr. Marcelenius Nlemigbo, who is the Chairman of the Imo APC, Caretaker Committee, instituted by Oshiomole.

9. Nnamdi Kanu’s Brother Marries Fellow IPOB Member

The traditional marriage rites between Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, Emmanuel Kanu and another IPOB member identified only as Chioma, took place on Sunday, January 13, at Ogbuga Eziala Nsulu in the Isiala-Ngwa North LGA of Abia state.in Abia state.

Although the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, was not present at the ceremony, family, friends and other IPOB members were there to celebrate with the couple.

10. I Won’t Stop Singing Against Transactional Sex – Falz

Folarin Falana, stage name, Falz, has come out to say that he won’t shift ground when it comes to the matter of prostitution.

Falz who just dropped a lead single from his Moral Instruction album titled Talk, has been criticized by many over his continued stand regarding slut shaming.

This line where he sang: “Instead make you work, you dey find Alhaji, You come turn your body to cash and carry” made people call him out for his obsession with ladies who have made a choice with what to do with their bodies.

Replying to their criticisms, Falz said that he detests transactional sex and will continue to speak out against it in his songs whether listeners like it or not.

11. Okorocha’s Party Dumps BUHARI, Adopts Atiku

The Action Alliance (AA) party which was formed by Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha in 2005 has said that it would now support PDP Atiku over APC Buhari in the coming presidential election.
Governor Okorocha formed the AA in 2005 after he was unable to secure presidential tickets in the PDP and APGA years back.

In the run-up to the 2019 election, Okorocha’s son in-law, Uche Nwosu had defected from the APC to the AA after he failed in clinching the APC governorship ticket.

Despite his defection, Governor Okorocha has not relented to seize any opportunity to campaign for his son in-law, saying his son in-law remains APC in spirit.

12. $8.4m Forfeiture Suit against Jonathan, Judgement Feb. 11

A Federal High Court in Lagos has marked February 11 to deliver judgment in an application seeking final forfeiture of 4.8 million dollars and N7.4 billion allegedly linked to the former First Lady, Patience Jonathan.

The EFCC had filed the application against the former first lady and six others.

EFCC counsel, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, on October 29, 2018, filed an application for final forfeiture of the sums.
