1. FG to Source Forex from Dangote — Emefiele

Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele has announced that the FG will soon be sourcing foreign exchange (forex) from Dangote Group.

This potential reversal of roles, according to the CBN Governor will be possible as soon as Dangote’s refinery, petrochemicals and fertiliser projects begins operations.

Emefiele made the statement after he spent over four hours touring the ongoing Dangote Refinery, Petrochemicals, Fertiliser projects and Dangote deep-water jetty in Lagos over the weekend.

2. FG Appoints New TETFund Executive Secretary

The FG has appointed Prof. Suleiman Bogoro as the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).

Bogoro was Executive Secretary of TETFUND between April 2014 and February 2016, but was replaced by Prof. Bichi Baffa.

Deputy Director, Information, Ministry of Education,Ben Goong in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, said the appointment of Bogoro is with immediate effect.

He said the reinstatement was also with the same terms and conditions as it were in his previous appointment and as stipulated in the TETFUND staff conditions of service.

3. IGP Sets Up Special Election Investigation Team

Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered immediate re-organisation of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

This came as he set up what a Special Election Investigation Team, SEIT, ahead of the general elections.

He announced that the body would be tasked with taking into custody and investigating electoral offenders that will be arrested across the country during the elections.

4. Dino Melaye Regains Freedom, Sues IGP

Kogi West Senator in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye has regained freedom after about two weeks in detention.

His freedom came sequel to the bail granted him by a high court in Abuja on health grounds.

Justice Yusuf Halilu in his ruling, said Melaye should be allowed to see to his health as he could not be arraigned on a stretcher or on his hospital bed.

After fulfilling his bail conditions, Melaye proceeded to file a suit against the inspector-general of police (IGP), seeking that the police do not arrest him.

5. What Tunde Idiagbon Did for Buhari After He Was Overthrown in 1985

President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed what his former deputy, late Major General Tunde Idiagbon did for him after his government was overthrown in 1985.

Buhari said Idiagbon, who was in Saudi Arabia on the day he was overthrown took the next flight back to Nigeria, saying, “if they kill him, let them kill me also.”

President Buhari made the revelation on Sunday when he received former staff who worked with him during his tenure as military Head of State between January 1984 and August 1985.

6. Court Restrains EFCC, Police, DSS from Arresting FFK, Odumakin

An Abuja High Court has restrained the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police from arresting or detaining former Aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, and Afenifere spokesman, Yinka Odumakin.

The order was issued by Justice John Tsoho, on Monday, following an ex parte application argued by Mr Chukwuma Machukwu-Ume SAN on behalf of the duo.

Machukwu-Ume told the court that three security agencies were planning to arrest and detain his clients over comments they made with regard to the travails of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Following which the spokesman of the EFCC, Tony Orilede, was alleged to have made threats to arrest them.

Machukwu-Ume reminded the security agencies that “The EFCC was established to pursue corruption and not comments made by Nigerians, expressing themselves.”

7. There are Plans to Use Food Vendors for Vote Buying – INEC

The INEC has announced that it has uncovered plans by some politicians to deploy food vendors around polling units in a bid to use them as “payment points” for vote buying.

Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu made the revelation Monday in Abuja when he received the European Union Chief Observer, Maria Arena.

8. Akeredolu to Establish Seaport in Ondo

In a bid to make Ondo State an industrial hub, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has announced the establishment of a Deep Sea Port to be named Port Ondo.

The Governor said the sea port will be located at the riverine area of the state.

Akeredolu announced this while addressing participants at the security summit in the state.

He also revealed that all papers and necessary documents needed for the commencement of the sea port are ready.

9. Obasanjo Plus Atiku Equals Zero- Oshiomhole

National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole on Monday lambasted former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, saying their political machinations will amount to nothing.

In his words, “Obasanjo and Atiku equal zero.”

Oshiomhole, said this in Hausa and English to a crowd of APC Supporters in Damaturu, Yobe state during anAPC rally in the state on Monday.

Obasanjo incurred Oshiomhole’s anger following the letter he wrote on Sunday, accusing President Buhari of planning to rig the elections. Obasanjo also likened Buhari’s government to Abacha’s.

10. Kebbi Government Orders Employment of Qualified Teachers Under 24 Hours

Gov. Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi has ordered the immediate employ qualified teachers in the state.

The Governor gave the directive to the Commissioner of Basic and Secondary School Education, Alhaji Muhammad Magawata in Birnin Kebbi at an interactive session with public servants in the state on Monday.

In his words, “If you see any qualified teachers who are indigenes, employ them tomorrow.’’
