Elites’ Thirst For Power Cause Tribal And Religious Crises – Emir Sanusi

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II on Friday says the political elites in the country are responsible for manipulating and exploration of the ongoing restructuring of the country because of their selfish interest.

The top monarch stated that the manipulation by elites has only resulted in communal violence and insecurity in the society at large.

Nasarawa Gov-elect lauds Buhari Over New Minimum Wage

Engr. Abdulahi Audu Sule, the Nasarawa state governor-elect, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for signing into law the National Minimum Wage Bill 2019 and pledged to implement it in Nasarawa state after he is sworn in as governor.

Sule, who described the feat as a testament to the fact that the president prioritizes the welfare of Nigerian workers and is always ready to ensure the right conditions are in place for them noted that the step taken by President Buhari will not only go a long way in assisting workers in meeting certain needs but will also strengthen the relationship between employers and employees and motivate improved productivity.

NLC TUC Demand Immediate Implementation of New Minimum Wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC has asked that the already implemented minimum wage should be initiated immediately.

While commending the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari in actualizing the passing of the new national minimum wage into law, the Union urged all employers of labour, particularly federal and state governments, to begin negotiations with all appropriate unions on the possibility of passing the new wage structure into action.

Ogoniland: FG Sues for Peace Ahead of Clean-up Exercise

The Federal Government has urged the people of Ogoniland to maintain peace and avoid taking actions capable of delaying the clean-up in oil-impacted communities in the area.

The Project Coordinator, Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), in the Federal Ministry of Environment, Dr Marvin Dekil, who made the plea on Friday in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers state at a town hall meeting with stakeholders in the area, reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to the clean-up exercise and said that peace was needed in the area to enable contractors to commence clean-up of decades-long oil spills in the area.

PDP approves Indefinite Suspension of 15 LGA Chairmen in Rivers

Rivers state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the indefinite suspension of 15 local government chairmen in the state.

According to a statement released by the PDP Rivers state secretary, Samuel Okpoko, the decision was reached on Thursday during an emergency meeting by the state executive at the state secretariat in Port Harcourt.
