Buhari Lauds Air Force Personnel for Returning Found Cash, Urges Youths to Emulate Him

President Muhammadu Buhari has commended Aircraftman (ACM) Bashir Umar for reportedly returning lost but found sum of 37,000 Euros to the owner.

The president in a statement signed by Femi Adesina, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity described such honesty by ACM Umar of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Mobile Air Defence Team at the Hajj Camp Market in Kano as “uncommon, patriotic and exemplary,”enjoining Nigerians, especially the youth, to emulate such worthy gesture.

According to President Buhari, “Honesty and integrity will always remain admirable virtues, notwithstanding challenges before any country.”

He also applauds the leadership of the NAF for its decision to “reward the airman so as to encourage other personnel of the Service to continue to embody attitudes and behaviours that reflect NAF’s core values of Integrity, Excellence and Service Delivery.”

It was reported that Umar returned a parcel to its owner that contained 37,000 euros ($41,500; £33,300) in cash,.

Bashir Umar, who is a member of the force’s Mobile Air Defence Team that is deployed to Kano airport, northern Nigeria, for security duties was on routine patrol with his colleagues when he found the parcel containing the lost money.

According to a statement released by the Nigerian Air Force, instead of keeping it, the serviceman found a telephone number on the parcel which turned out to be the contact for the money’s owner.

According to the force, Umar will now be rewarded “so as to encourage other personnel of the service”.
