Buhari Lauds Bill Gates, Promises Not to Fail Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari has commended one of the world’s richest men, Bill Gates for his consistent and generous support to public causes around the globe, and specifically in support of the eradication of polio and HIV diseases in Africa and Nigeria in particular.
The president commended the American billionaire in a phone call made to him, congratulating him on his reelection in the recently concluded presidential election which was held in February 23, 2019.

Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity in a statement said Gates during the congratulatory telephone call to the President upon his resounding election victory, said he was happy to be associated with the President.
He added that Gates restated his commitment to the success of the President Buhari administration as well as the progress, prosperity and well-being of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
While stating that the America expressed willingness to do more for the country, Shehu pointed that president Buhari reiterated his opinion that Gates’ wealth has benefited Nigeria’s development, and expressed appreciation for the call.

“I am very happy the way your projects have touched the life of the average Nigerian. The people of this country have given their verdict. This verdict says we have to work hard to meet their expectations. God willing, we will not fail, ” the President said.
Gates, who is the co-chairman of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, had during his visit to Nigeria criticised the execution process of the economic and recovery growth plan (ERGP), saying it does not reflect the needs of Nigerians.
The ERGP is a medium-term document launched by President Muhammadu Buhari administration in 2017 to restore the nation’s economic status after it was hit by its worst recession in 29 years.
