Buhari Meets With Economic Advisory Council Behind Closed Doors

  • This is the first EAC meeting after being inaugurated by the president.
  • They are to report directly to the President.

President Muhammadu Buhari is currently in a meeting with the members of the Economic Advisory Council (EAC) behind closed doors at the State House in Abuja.

Recall that Buhari just set up the team after dissolving the one under the tutelage of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo formerly referred to as the National Economic Council (NEC)

President Buhari had at last month replaced the team with a mandate to report directly to him.

The eight-man council is headed by Professor Doyin Salami. Dr. Mohammed Sagagi is the vice-chairman while the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Development Policy, Dr. Mohammed Salisu, is the secretary.

The President also appointed a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Chukwuma Soludo, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Financial Derivatives Company Limited, Mr. Bismark Rewane as members.

Other members of the committee include Professor Ode Ojowu, Dr Shehu Yahaya, and Dr. Iyabo Masha.

The aim of the Council is to advise the President on economic policy matters, including fiscal analysis, economic growth and a range of internal and global economic issues working with the relevant cabinet members and heads of monetary and fiscal agencies.

    The President dissolved the Economic Management Team not the National Economic Council.. Pls, take note.
