President Muhammadu Buhari has called his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, to sympathise with him over the attack on his Otuoke country home in Bayelsa.
The president in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, reassured Jonathan of his safety and security as well as those of all Nigerians, remain the preoccupation of his administration.
While also commiserating with the families of the dead soldier and the injured during the attack, Buhari in the telephone conversation expressed sadness over the “tragic and unfortunate attack,” during which a gallant soldier lost his life.
“While commending the soldiers on guard for bravely repelling the attack, the President condoled with family members as well as officers and men of the Nigerian Army over the loss of one of the guards.
“President Buhari assured that the protection of the life of the former leader and all citizens of the country will continue to be the major preoccupation of his administration,” the statement said.
