Buhari Won’t Dissolve Cabinet on Valedictory Day – Lai Mohammed

  • Minister clears air on the dissolution of the cabinet by President Muhammadu Buhari.
  • Says it is the prerogative of the president to dissolve cabinet whenever he likes.

Information reaching iDONSABI indicates that President Muhammadu Buhari will dissolve his cabinet on May 22.

This was revealed by the minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Thursday in Abuja immediately after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to the State House correspondents.

However, the minister had again said the cabinet members still remain intact, adding that there will be a valedictory session on 22nd May.

Clarifying his earlier statement to the state House correspondent in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Minister, Segun Adeyemi, the minister said it is the prerogative of President Muhammadu Buhari to dissolve the cabinet anytime he chooses.

‘’It is inaccurate to extrapolate from my statement – that the FEC valedictory session will hold on 22 May – to say that the President will dissolve the cabinet on the same day. They do not mean the same thing,” he said.

Recall that President Buhari swore in the 36 ministers on 11 November 2015, with few departures recorded till date He had left Abuja this morning to visit Maiduguri, Borno state to commission a host of projects.

After the visit, he flew to London, the United Kingdom for a private visit. He is expected back in Abuja on May 5.

President Buhari who had been elected for a second term in the February 23 Presidential election will begin his second term on May 29, 2019.

Although his victory is being challenged at the Tribunal by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claiming he won the poll with over a million vote, using INEC database as evidence.
