Cabinet Reshuffle: President Buhari to Sack 10 Ministers

President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday revealed that his cabinet is about to undergo a major restructure, one in which at least 10 ministers will most likely lose their current jobs.

According to THISDAY News, the Buhari-led presidency has written to the Senate, making known its intention about the cabinet reshuffle.

Following the sack of the ministers, another rigorous screening process for new ministers is set to commence; in recent times, this process usually snowballs into plenty of controversy and the presidency is trying to avoid this, by alerting the senate prior to sending a list of nominees.

One gaping hole which the cabinet reshuffle will look to fill are the ministry of State for Labour and productivity, whose past Minister, James Ocholi, died in an auto-crash earlier this year and the ministry of Environment, whose minister, Mrs. Amina Mohammed, was earlier appointed as the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.

ThisDay’s source also reveals that of the about 10 ministers whose ministries will be reshuffled, not all of them will be fired; ““some will change portfolio” said the source.

“There is an understanding that in the new year, one of the key assignments the Senate will undertake, aside from the consideration of the 2017 budget, is the screening of new ministerial nominees who will
be replacing some of the ministers that will soon be asked to leave
the cabinet,” the source revealed.

The president Buhari administration is set to make the substitutions, following heavy critism that it put the right people in the wrong places and vice versa.
