Chelsea New Boss Lampard To Give Batshuayi And Drinkwater Fresh Start

Chelsea new boss, Frank Lampard is set to hand the duo of Danny Drinkwater and Michy Batshuayi an opportunity to revive their Chelsea careers should they put on a good performance in pre-season, the London Blues however do not expect Alvaro Morata to play any part under the regime of the new boss.

Neither £35 million signing from Leicester City, Danny Drinkwater nor Batshuayi played a huge part under departed boss, Maurizio Sarri. The latter’s season at the Stamford Bridge amounted to a cameo appearance as a substitute in the Community Shield and failed to represent the Blues in any competitive appearance under the Italian gaffer.

Batshuayi fondly called Batman by some quarters of the club’s fanbase who scored the goal which clinched the title under former boss, Antonio Conte spent most parts of last campaign on loan at Valencia and Crystal Palace.

Incoming manager, Lampard has said that he is conscious of the transfer ban placed upon them by UEFA and is willing to give everyone a clean slate

“Everybody will have the opportunity to show what they can do and [demonstrate] their attitude, the way they play and train in pre-season onwards,” the Englishman said.

“I would be a fool to come here with ideas about freezing anybody out. I want to get the best out of the squad. Everybody has an opportunity, I have no preconceived ideas about anybody. I have got good knowledge of the squad but I need to see them over the next month.”

Drinkwater is one of a group of five players who UEFA deem fit to qualify as homegrown for playing the Champions League. Another member of that small group, Loftus Cheek remains on the sidelines for a lengthy period of time, no thanks to a ruptured Achilles sustained in May.
