Chelsea Secure Comfortable Win Over Brighton And First Clean Sheet Of The Season

Chelsea secured a comfortable win over Brighton and Hove Albion and their first clean sheet under the reign of Frank Lampard.

Goals from the duo of Jorginho – who scored from the penalty spot – and Willian secured all three points for the Blues.

Having wasted some clear cut chances in the first forty-five minutes, they did atone for their sins 10 minutes after the interval with Jorginho putting the ball in he net from the spot. Thereafter, Willian wrapped things up 15 minutes from time.

While Chelsea have climbed up to 6th position on the league standings, their counterparts, Brighton are wallowing in 16th after failing to record a win in the top flight this term.

The West Londoners started on the front foot and it took a minute of brilliance from Matthew Ryan to deny rampaging Tammy Abraham. Then, Jorgingo found his volley go just wide of the far post.

Chelsea remained in control of the game with Willian sending a shot well over the crossbar from distance, just before a well-struck inswinging freekick was denied by the far post after striker, Tammy Abraham failed to make a connecting header.

However, Chelsea had nothing to show for all their effort and Brighton sought to cause a big upset against the run of play.

The opportunity that Brighton had looked for all night came soon after but Kepa Arrizabalaga got the better of Neal Maupay.

Chelsea then came close through Pedro and Ross Barkley but they just couldn’t hit the mark.

They were soon rewarded for all their toils, some minutes after the interval after Adam Webster fsiled to control a pass and ended up tripping Mason Mount.

The result? Jorginho was given the nod ahead of Ross Barkley and Sarri’s golden boy put Chelsea on top.

Lampard made the choice to bring in Hudson-Odoi for his first Premier League game of the campaign before Willian’s shot found way into the back of the net only 15 minutes from time.
