Chelsea Squeeze Win Against Newcastle United

Chelsea squeezed out a win against Newcastle United to make it five wins on the spin. The London club have fought back well since their 4-0 demolition by Manchester United in their opening game.

They have been incredible with young striker, Tammy Abraham who has now found the net eight times, drawing him level with Sergio Aguero at the summit of the Premier League’s goalscorer standings.

Marcos Alonso’s second-half strike was enough to pocket all three points against the Magpies.

The full-back’s goal did the magic of dragging the London blues back into the top four.

Chelsea made only one change to the side that tore Southampton apart piece by piece with Ross Barkley coming in for Ngolo Kante who was injured on International duty with France.

The Magpies looked a threat on the counter from the off, with Allan Saint-Maximin in particular showing promise. However, it was Willian who got the clearest chance to open the scoring but his header from Callum Hudson-Odoi went just offside from close range.

The Englishman was quite the creative spark in the mix. He set up Mason Mount to test Martin Dubravka and was a constant source of worry for Ciaran Clark.

Chelsea lost Barkley to an injury just before the break leaving Chelsea gaffer, Lampard shaking his head and he walked down the tunnel.

Abraham almost lifted the mood of the man who had placed so much trust in him, giving him the nod over Michy Batshuayi as the club’s first-choice striker, but his header just came off the crossbar.

He missed another from close range with even lesser pressure. He should have scored!

Newcastle United were holding onto a thread and it was only a matter of time they gave in.

Indeed, Chelsea got rewarded for all their efforts 17 minutes from time when Pulisic crossed for Hudson-Odoi who placed a pass to Alonso to drive low past Dubravka.
