Chelsea Transfer Ban Appeal Rebuffed
Chelsea FC have now lost their appeal against FIFA’s agreement to put an embargo on all player signings for the next two transfer windows.
The only exception albeit a recent change is that until the end of Janurary 2020 the club can only be allowed to sign U-16 players in the UK during this transfer ban period.
FIFA took this decision against Chelsea earlier after opening up investigations into their signings of foreign U-18 players.
The London club will now make a move to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport
“The Fifa appeal committee has decided to partially uphold the appeal lodged by Chelsea,” Fifa said in a statement.
“This ban applied to the club as a whole – with the exception of the women’s and futsal teams – and did not prevent the release of players.”
According to the report by FIFA, breaches in 29 cases out of 92 investigated had been found.
The fine slapped onto Chelsea by the world’s governing body, FIFA still remains and now the club is expected to pay a fine of £460,000
Chelsea would now look on to their players out on loan and their January signing, Christian Pulisic to build a formidable team with a move away from Stamford Bridge for Eden Hazard during the summer looking very likely.
Here are a number of their high-profile players out on loan:
Alvaro Morata (Atletico Madrid), Tammy Abraham (Aston Villa), Victor Moses (Fenerbahce), Michy Batshuayi (Crystal Palace), Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund), Kenedy (Newcastle), Tiemoue Bakayoko (AC Milan) and Kurt Zouma (Everton).
They also have a number of youth players on loan which services they could employ over this period
Fifa bans the transfer of under-18s to different countries unless they meet some criteria set to help protect children from exploitation and trafficking.
Under-18s can only be transferred abroad if:
- The player’s parents move to the country in which the new club is located for non-footballing reasons.
- Both clubs are in the European Union or European Economic Area and the player is aged between 16 and 18. Even then, the buying club must meet more criteria relating to education, training, living conditions and support.
- They live within 100km of the club.
