Chelsea vs Derby County – EFL Cup Preview and Scores

Match Preview and Team News

Stamford Bridge is set to welcome club legend Frank Lampard, the Derby County coach and his players in the EFL Cup fourth round on wednesday night.

Frank Lampard will find that it is a different Chelsea from the one he left at the end of the 2013-2014 season asonly David Luiz, Eden Hazard, Gary Cahill, Willian and Cesar Azpilicueta are still left fron that season.

Also, the team has flourished this season, putting teams to the sword whilst playing attacking, free flowing football. And to add to it, the players are enjoying the style and the vibes and the results they are getting from “SarriBall”.

It’s a domestic but equally important and Sarri will be focusing on on Wednesday, as Chelsea seek to continue their charge on all fronts having already defeated Premier League rivals Liverpool in this season’s competition.

Derby will be looking to spoil the party at the bridge. They will be trying for a win again after defeating giants Manchester United in the fourth round.

It is 11 matches since Chelsea last lost at home too, including five wins from seven matches at Stamford Bridge so far this season – most recently beating BATE Borisov 3-1 in the Europa League last Thursday.

Eden Hazard is the only player who is not expected to feature due to a recent back injury. The last two weeks have been busy for Chelsea, who have been playing two matches every week.

Squad rotation players such as Loftus-Cheek, Victor Moses, Cesc Fabregas and Andreas Christensen will hope to get a chance to impress from the start. Sarri is expected to make wholesale changes to his side for this match

Chelsea will likely field the following team

Caballero; Zappacosta, Cahill, Christensen, Emerson; Loftus-Cheek, Fabregas, Kovacic; Moses, Giroud, Hudson-Odoi

Derby County

Lampard is a two time winner of the competition with Chelsea and he will be relishingthe opportunity to dump his old team out of contention. He will be seeking to gain a whole new level of experience after having defeated his old manager Jose Mourinho just a month ago in the same EFL Competition.

Frank Lampard won everything there is to win in English football while at Stamford Bridge, but the targets are different now as he bids to finally end Derby’s wait for a return to the top flight after a string of near misses.

Derby Manager Frank Lampard

Derby look in good shape this season. They are placed 6th on the log, after 15 games and are just 2 points adrift automatic promition places.

Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount are both Chelsea players on loan to Derby and they have been given permission to play against their parent club on wednesday. Derby are expected to name a strong side considering they are up against a side as strong as Chelsea.
