Chelsea VS Newcastle-EPL January 12 Preview And Scores

Chelsea are back in league action as they host Newcastle United at the Stamford Bridge. The blues haven’t lost a game in their last four matches in the league and will be looking to extend that run of form. Newcastle on the other hand head into this fixture on the back of a poor run of form which has seen them lose four consecutive matches. They as a result sit only two points above the relegation zone.

Chelsea

Chelsea have recorded just 13 points from their last six games. What has however made all the headlines from the Bridge is the future of Callum Hudson-Odoi. It is for plausible reasons that this is so as Chelsea have been very poor in the final third. Therefore, letting an attacking a player leave could well turn out to be a regrettable move for the West London side.

The defence line deserves a lot of accolades from the fans. They have shipped in only 16 goals in 21 outings. Sarri would be licking his lips when they face a struggling Newcastle. On the contrary, they have been particularly poor in the final third. They had falled to score against Leicester City and even an extremely poor Southampton. However, a marginal win against Newcastle would be all they need out of this one.

Newcastle

Benitez’s side have been on a poor run of form lately. Three successive victories in the month of November had kept them out of relegation threats but the tides are changing now.

Maybe unrelated to that, be the judge of that, Bentitez had previously claimed that remaining in the league by season-end should be considered a miracle. Could this be some mind games at play? Or could he be a seer? I guess we never can tell.

We however hope that they grind out a good result against Chelsea.

Team News

Willain and Pedro having returned from injury should get back into the team ahead of Callum Hudson-Odoi. Hazard should be given the nod over Morata in his favoured false-9 position. David Luiz and Kepa Arrizabalaga should feature in this one after being left out in the EFL cup tie with Spurs.

On the flip side, the likes of Mohammed Diame, Federico Fernandez and Jonjo Shelvey are all out with injuries for the Magpies. That could see Kenedy replace Christian Atsu in the starting XI. Issac Hayden should also feature for Newcastle.

Possible Starting Line-Up

Chelsea:

Arrizabalaga; Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Alonso; Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic; Willian, Hazard, Pedro

Newcastle:

Dubravka; Lascelles, Schar, Lejeune; Yedlin, Diame, Hayden, Dummett; Richie, Rondon, Kenedy

Score Prediction

Being that the Magpies could be a hard nut to crack, we say Chelsea 2 – 1 Newcastle
