Collapsed Building Leaves Eight Injured in Oshodi

  • Two trapped have been rescued and taken to hospital.
  • Building to be demolished with immediate effect.

Eight people have sustained various injuries after another building collapsed today at No 35, Adesanya Street, Mafoluku area of Oshodi in Lagos State.

Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Oke Osanyintolu, blamed the collapse on poor maintenance, adding that integrity tests will be carried out on adjacent buildings to ascertain their suitability and durability.

He further revealed that no death was recorded as occupants have been evacuated.

The building is expected to be pulled down to ensure the safety of people living in the area.

He also said that council officials have also been directed to ensure proper maintenance of drainages around the area.

According to a situation posted on the Twitter page of the agency, the storey building suddenly came down with two people said to be trapped and rescued and taken to a nearby hospital by neighbours before the arrival of the Agency.

The agency further said that the building was undergoing illegal renovation before it collapsed this morning.

“There is an urgent need for complete demolition of the building before it causes any further disaster.”
