Coronavirus: Celtic Board And Players Take Huge Salary Cuts

Scottish giants,  Celtic have announced that its playing members and members of the board will be taking paycuts as the Coronavirus pandemic continues to ravage several countries across the world.

This paycut was deemed necessary by the club as they look to protect their finances.

In a statement made by the club via their official website on Friday, it as announced that the backroom staff, first team players and manager, Neil Lennon will be taking significant cuts in their salaries. They will also be making referrals of a large portion of their earnings between the months of April and June.

Club chief executive Peter Lawwell isn’t exempted as well, neither are directors and other senior managers at the club.

According to Celtic, the drastic decision was arrived at to ensure financial stability at the club after the League was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Neil Lennon’s side were close to winning their ninth consecutive title when the season was postponed last month.  It has now been announced that the 2019/2020 season would not resume at an earlier time than June.

Celtic manager, Lennon said:

“This club is all about teamwork and solidarity, on and off the park. We are well aware of the economic realities and are very willing to play our part in recognising them. We will come through this in unity and then look forward to the challenges ahead.

“We also know that many within society, including our own support, are facing distress and, in some cases, tragedy. Everyone at Celtic Football Club, including the players and my own backroom team, expresses our appreciation of the work being done by NHS staff, carers and all who are providing vital public services at this time.”
