Coronavirus: Watford Boss Says It Would Be A Tragedy For Liverpool If Premier League Was Voided

Watford boss, Nigel Pearson has suggested that it would be a tragedy to see Liverpool lose out on their title chance due to Coronavirus.

Pearson believes that the Reds have had a fantastic season and shouldn’t be stopped from winning their first title in 30 years. However, he urges the public to keep things in perspective.

The Premier League has been suspended till April 3 with the World Health Organisation stating that the pandemic had infected over 132,500 scattered across the globe.

The Merseyside club have won 27 of their 29 league games, leading the Citizens by 25 points, with second-placed Manchester City having 30 left to play for. With that gigantic lead, winning their first title in 30 years is inevitable. However,  that moment of glory could be cut short by the Coronavirus crisis.

It still remains unclear whether the season will be finished, even as West Ham Vice-Chairman suggested that the league be declared null and void.

Pearson and his Vicarage road folks are currently wallowing in 17th place on the league standings only on goal difference and the yellow and black’s  boss is uncertain what the future holds for them.

“Well, the longer it goes on the more difficult it will be to conclude the season,” he told the Guardian. “We have to keep this in perspective, of course, but for Liverpool it would be such a tragedy not to conclude the season.

“But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It could be that when we get to April, we may be able to resume and go into the summer months. How it looks for football pales – not into insignificance – but we need perspective on real-life issues. But, yes, purely on a football basis it’s going to throw up problems we’ve not experienced in this country before.”
