Buhari To Inaugurate CBN Centre Of Excellence At UNN

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday inaugurate the Post-Graduate Centre of Excellence built by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and donated to the University of Nigeria, Enugu State.

Spokesperson of the CBN, Isaac Okorafor, disclosed that the project, which is part of the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the educational sector, is sited in the Enugu campus of the university.

This follows similar projects in the University of Ibadan and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.


Acting IG Orders Reorganisation Of SARS

The acting Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the immediate decentralisation of operations of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) unit.

Adamu gave the order at a meeting with officers in the rank of Commissioners of Police and above on Monday in Abuja.

He said that with the new arrangement, commissioners of police in the 36 states and the FCT would assume full command and control on all SARS in their commands.

The police boss said henceforth the SARS unit in the force headquarters, would be under the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID).


You Can’t Deceive Nigerians With Ethnicity, Religion, Says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has described as “bloody nonsense” the penchant of some Nigerians to hide under the canopy of ethnicity and religion to perpetuate injustice and corrupt acts.

According to a statement issued by a presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina in Abuja on Monday, the President made the assertion while hosting his former staff who worked with him during his tenure as military head of state (January 1984-August 1985) on Sunday night at the State House, Abuja.

He posited that the recourse to the smokescreen of religion and ethnicity “is just corruption, pure and simple.”


Ondo Senatorial Election: Mimiko Pledges To Lobby Lawmakers For Election Reform Law.

Former Governor of Ondo State and the Senatorial Candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the February 16 Election, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, on Monday, said he will create synergy with politicians of like minds to lobby other members of the National Assembly to legislate for Election Finance Reform Law.

Mimiko stated who stated this in Akure, Ondo state capital while addressing people from the six local governments areas that constituted Ondo Central Senatorial District, said he would also lobby for legislation of masses oriented projects to replicate programmes and projects executed and implemented while he was the governor of the state.

Mimiko appreciated the people of the area for supporting him in his past political career, said he would not let the people down if he wins the senatorial election.


Attack On Obasanjo: Stop Acting Like A Coward, PDP Tells Buhari

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted President Muhammadu Buhari for allowing his aide to haul insults “on respected leaders and elder statesmen, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, for cautioning against his desperation for self-succession.”

The party said in approving his media aide, Mallam Shehu Garba, to cast aspersions and insult on a former President, President Buhari is setting a very bad example to younger Nigerians by fouling our national values and heritage of esteeming our elders and leaders; a seed, which may also haunt him in the future.

According to a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by Kola Ologbondiyan Director, Media & Publicity, PDP Presidential Campaign Organization, Nigerians were appalled that President Buhari, “whose state of health has been accommodated by the nation, would turn around to make baseless and unsubstantiated negative assertions on the health of another leader.”


N6.9bn Fraud: Obanikoro Testifies In EFCC’s Case Against Fayose

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday called former Minister of State for Defence, Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro to testify in the trial of forner Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose who was accused of money laundering to the tune of N6.9 billion.

He had pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the court had granted him bail in the sum of N50 million with one surety in like sum.

Obanikoro told the court that in June 2014, close to the Ekiti State governorship election, he received a call from the Fayose, enquiring from him, if there was any message for him, from the then National Security Adviser, (NSA) Col. Sambo Dasuki.

The offences contravenes the provisions of sections 15(1), 15 (2), 15 (3), 16(2)(b), 16 (d), and 18 (c) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2011


Benue Assembly Suspends Six Council Chairmen, Others

Benue State House of Assembly has approved the suspension of six Chairmen and two Vice Chairmen of Local Government Councils in the State.

The affected chairmen were suspended for three months over alleged gross misconduct, misappropriation of funds and abuse of Office.

The affected chairmen are, Austin Okwoche of Oju council; Mrs Juliana Audu of Makurdi; Terdoo Kenti of Kwande and his Vice, Andrew Orvande as well as Francis Ogwuche of Okpokwu.


Housewife Allegedly Beaten To Death In Ondo

A 40 year old housewife, Foluke Olaonipekun, was allegedly beaten to death by her co-tenant in Arigidi Akoko, in Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo state.

It was gathered that the deceased was beaten to death during a scuffle with one of her co-tenants, Morenikeji Bello, over a minor misunderstanding

An eye witness explained that “the two tenants who lived at Ogo Steel area of Arigidi were known to be sworn enemies and engage in regular face off.”

He said the clash between the two women took another dimension at the weekend when the two families engaged in free for all fight, leading to the death of Olaonipekun.

Nigeria’s Slow Judicial Processes Scaring Investors Away ― NIMASA

The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside has urged the Nigerian judicial system to be timely in delivering verdicts on maritime cases, lamenting that delays associated with judicial cases in Nigeria’s maritime sector is scaring away foreign investors.

Speaking on Monday in Lagos when the agency hosted the 8th Strategic Admiralty Law Seminar for Judges, the NIMASA helmsman revealed that the agency has already ratified 40 conventions of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and International Labour Organisation (ILO) on maritime safety, maritime labour and marine environment management, domesticating 19 of these conventions either by adoption, regulations or by incorporation under the Merchant Shipping Act, 2007.

According to Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside, “aside ratifying 40 conventions of the IMO and ILO, we are already working with the Federal Ministry of Transportation under the auspices of an Inter-Ministerial Committee to ratify an additional six IMO conventions before the end of 2019 to ensure that Nigeria as an IMO member state fulfils its treaty obligation.
