Abdulrasaq Is APC Guber Candidate – Lai

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who doubles as a leader of the APC in Kwara State, has confirmed the candidature of Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq as the gubernatorial flagbearer of the party in the 2019 elections.

Lai, who revealed this, after a meeting with the Bashir Bolarinwa led party executive council, said no court decision disqualified his candidate.

He said “I read the court judgment and there is nowhere that talks about our candidate being disqualified. Of course, we have appealed the judgment for other reasons”.

“As at today, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq remains the authentic candidate of the party.”

The minister’s reaction is an aftermath of the recent judgement passed at a Kwara High Court, which recognized the Executive Council of the Ishola Balogun-Fulani faction of the APC.


Abule-Egba Fire: Police Arrests Suspects

The Lagos State Police Command, has arrested four suspects in connection with the NNPC pipeline vandalism at Abule Egba that led to the fire incidence.

The command’s spokesman, CSP Chike Oti, who confirmed the arrests, said that a prime suspect, Prince Adedipo Dauda Ewenla, is now at large and has been declared wanted.


Ojota: Bloodshed As Transport Union Workers Battle

There was a clash at the Ojota Motor Park, as members loyal to the leadership of the park tried to defend the park from intruders — led by a suspended factional leader — with machetes, bottles and other weapons.

A source who pleaded for anonymity, said “The clash started in the evening at about 6.30pm, many vehicles were leaving the park hurriedly and gunshots were fired into the air and everyone scampered for safety”.

Anti-riot policemen and an Armoured Personnel Carrier have been stationed to restore peace.


Army Launches Python Dance III

The Nigerian Army has launched a special military operation tagged ‘Operation Egwu Eke III’

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai, who was represented by the Army’s Chief of Training and Operations, Maj. Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, at the launch held at the Headquarter of Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri, on Friday, said the military operation will be conducted across the country.

He said “The Nigerian Army will continue to conduct internal security operations in combating criminality and other security challenges in the country, in line with its constitutional mandate of military aid to civilian authority”.

“Let me use this opportunity to call on the good people of our great nation Nigeria, to provide our men and women in uniform adequate support especially timely Information to enable them deliver on the mandate of exercise ‘Egwu Eke III”.

Operation ‘Egwu Eke’ is an Igbo phrase meaning ‘Python Dance’, and has previously been conducted in 2016 and 2017 respectively in the southeast region of Nigeria.


Bishop Kukah Mourns Shehu Shagari

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah, has commiserated with former Nigerian president, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died on Friday night, at the National Hospital Abuja.

Kukah, in a statement today, said “The late former president was a committed patriot, dedicated to the building of a peaceful and democratic Nigeria.

“In his pursuit for dialogue, he was the first Nigerian leader to invite the Pope to visit our country in 1982, thus, laying the moral foundation for his Ethnical Revolution”.

Bishop Kukah prayed unto God to grant the deceased, eternal rest.


Buhari: I Will Arrest More Politicians

President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to arrest more politicians in 2019.

He said “I will not stop arresting corrupt politicians. Very soon, I will inform Nigerians of funds recovered from looters. I will ensure that I recover Nigeria and no Nigerian will ever regret voting me and the APC”.

“We will not go back on the Single Treasury Account, it is meant to ensure transparency, because every federal government money that goes in there can easily be traced”.

Buhari who revealed this at the flag-off of his presidential campaigns in Akwa Ibom, also promised to tackle unemployment.


10 Die In Auto Crash In Benue

The zonal campaign rally of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue South Senatorial district was, on Friday, cancelled after seven members of the party lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident involving three vehicles.

The deceased were on their way from Oju local government area to the campaign rally in Agatu Local government area when their vehicle had a head on collision with another vehicle along Otukpo-Oweto highway.

The campaign rally was cancelled after due consultations with leaders of the party in the state including Governor Samuel Ortom, former Senate President, Sen. David Mark, Former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, and the state chairman of the PDP, Sir John Ngbede

The Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Plateau State, Mr. Bulus Dabit, has called on the Federal Government to act quickly, to stem the increase in social vices such as rape, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, electoral violence etc in the country.

Mr. Dabit, who was represented by an Assistant Director of Programme, Mr. Mwakon Dung Vincent, said: “Lack of proper funding of non- formal education for effective teaching of adults and school dropouts is responsible for social vices such as kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, crises and communal violence in the country.

She blamed poverty, crisis, and non-commitment of some parents and bad government policies to the increasing crime rate in the country.


Police: Dino Melaye Wanted For Homicide

The Police have said that embattled lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, was needed to answer to a case of attempted homicide.

The force alleged that Melaye and his armed thugs shot and injured one Sgt Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force who was on duty at a stop and search point along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi State on July 19, 2018.

The force spokesman, acting DCP Moshood Jimoh, said this in a statement following the police siege to Melaye’s Abuja residence.


Suspect: Why We Killed Alex Badeh

A suspect, Shuaibu Rabo, arrested for allegedly killing the former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (rtd), has revealed why the general was killed.

Rabo said that Alex Badeh was killed while trying to escape from an armed robbery attack. The intent of the attack was to rob him of money meant for the purchase of a new farmland.
