Dankwambo Was A Clueless Governor – Gov Yahaya

Gombe Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya has said that his predecessor, Ibrahim Dankwambo,‏ was clueless because he failed to focus on real issues that were affecting the people.

Yahaya stated this while speaking News Night on Channels TV, monitored by iDONSABI.

On the revenue allocation to the state, which he said is worse, Yahaya noted that the situation is like everywhere.

He further stated that on the revenue allocation table, Gombe is virtually second to the last on the list.

“I think we only top Nasarawa and Ekiti, or we are virtually on the same level. That means we go with N4bn, averagely about N4bn in a month. And because of the commitments in terms of repayments and standing payment orders issued by the last government, Gombe goes home with N3bn; N1bn goes off direct from the source. #NewsNightCTV

He further said that he has no other option than to call people and tell them the reality because he has to govern by the realities on the ground.

“There’s no way I can print money and come and give to the people. There are only one or two ways that you can get money in order to execute government programmes or to run the government; one is the statutory allocation that comes from the federation account. Second is the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

“Gombe as a state, does not generate up to N300m per month and we are 3.2m people. So, if we cannot generate that money and we cannot get it from Abuja, then where else?” he asked.

The governor also blamed poor IGR on bad governance and poor practices. He said this has didn’t allow his government to tax the people correctly because the little available resources have to be used correctly.

“Any little money you have, if you indulge in expenditure that does not impact on the people, and you go for mundane things that are not helping the people, you have to source money to fund social welfare.

On his predecessor, he said his concern was not on the human capital but on flimsy white elephant projects that are not touching the people.

“They were heartless; in executing projects, they did not touch on our real business community, and where they touched them, they did not pay them, and we are having a stash of liabilities now which we have to pay.

“They were reckless because they did not manage our resources well. That is the true situation. As of today, Gombe is owing N119.2bn debt.”

On insecurity, he said they were managing and collaborate with states that are directly involved.
