Desmond Elliot Dragged For Commissioning Toilet As First Constituency Project

Yesterday, the 21st of February, a recent development sparked outrage among users of social media app, Twitter. Nigerians in their droves took to the social media platform to blast Nollywood actor and politician, Desmond Elliot for commissioning a biofil public toilet in his constituency.

With the election only few days ago, it has become a somewhat usual happening to see politicians hurry to build and commission projects in order to prise people onto their side and swing votes in their favour.

While some last minute project erections and commissioning has worked well for some of these politicians fetching them some praise in the process, it hasn’t for some others.

This was certainly the story of Desmond Elliot who represents Surulere at the Lagos State House of Assembly on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The actor turned politician who is seeking for a second term at the House commissioned a toilet which according to him converted waste to manure.

This was the undoing of the actor as Twitter users took to their handle to bash him for commissioning such a cheap project.

Indeed, talks about this toilet has been trending for the past fourteen hours and social media users seem not to be able to wrap their heads around why a toilet was erected rather than countless other projects that could have been carried out

Prior to that, Elliot has tweeted: “this isn’t just a building, its not just a toilet, but one that converts waste to manure so nothing is wasted as we keep the environment clean.”

This tweet or its accompanying pictures definitely didn’t go down well with many Nigerians as they dragged him on the streets of Twitter.

While some were quick to pounce on the debate whether youths were indeed ready to take over from aged politicians, some others were quick to dismiss the argument to state that the project wasn’t in itself bad as it wasn’t just a regular toilet.
