The Supreme Court has ruled on the appeal filed by a governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, Timi Alaibe, challenging the emergence of Governor Duoye Diri as the party’s candidate in the last year’s election.
The apex court in a judgment delivered by a five-man panel led by Justice Olabode Rhodes-Vivour dismissed the appeal and ruled that Diri remains the duly elected governor of the southern state.
AllNigerianinfo had reported that Diri was sworn in on February 14, a day after the Supreme Court sacked the former governor-elect of Bayelsa State, David Lyon, and his Deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieoyo.
The court then ordered INEC to issue a fresh Certificate-of-Return to the candidate to Diri with his Deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
