Ebonyi State University Names Institute After Chief Of Army Staff

Ebonyi State University has honored the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai by naming the newly created Institute of Peace and Strategic Studies (IPSS) after him.

Professor Chigozie Egbu, the Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University and former Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, led a delegation to the Army Headquarters on Friday to pay a courtesy visit to Buratai and also update him of the development.

Professor Egbu praised the efforts of the army under the leadership of Buratai in ensuring peace in the nation. He also commended the conduct of the army during the 2019 election in ensuring that Nigerians voted peacefully.

According to Professor Egbu, “Ebonyi State university is ready to collaborate with the Army on the trust that a well-educated Army is essential for effective military duties in the 21st Century. We are also delighted that you are interested in the establishment of an Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies at EBSU to offer members of the Armed Forces, Police and paramilitary agencies the opportunity to get higher and relevant education”.

Professor Egbu also revealed that Governor of Ebonyi State, David  Umahi, and the State Executive Council had approved that the Institute be named “LT Gen Tukur Yusufu Buratai Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies”.

General Buratai responded by thanking the Ebonyi State Government and citizens for bestowing him such an honor. He dedicated it to the soldiers across the nation fighting to curb the numerous security challenges in the country.

Buratai also assured the delegation that the Nigerian Army will support Ebonyi State to provide quality education and to serve as a centre for academic research on contemporary security challenges, signifying that the Army will sponsor qualified officers and soldiers interested to enroll in its programmes.
