ECOWAS, AU and UN call for patience as INEC releases Presidential Election result

– ECOWAS, AU, and UN have called on political parties and Nigerians to remain patient as INEC released the Presidential election result

– The international bodies noted that any political party or person dissatisfied with the result should seek redress in the court of law 

As Nigerians await the final result of the 2019 Presidential Election which is still being counted by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC at it collation center in Abuja, international communities which include Economic Community of West Africa States ECOWAS, African Union AU, and the United Nations UN have urged Nigerians to remain patience why they await the final result.

The bodies also urged political parties and candidates to exercise restraint and give room for INEC to announce the final result.

This latest statement was made public on Tuesday via the ECOWAS Commission.

According to the statement released, the ECOWAS, AU and the UN made it known that it attention has been drawn to the rejection of the results of the presidential election which took place Feb.23, 2019 by one of the participating political parties, despite the fact that the results are still in the process of being released.

A part of the statement read, “ECOWAS, AU and the UN call on all candidates, political parties and indeed all Nigerians to continue to exercise patience, calm and restraint, in order to allow for the full results of the election to be released by INEC.”

The international bodies in it statement further urged aggrieved political parties or candidates to resort to seeking redress in the court of law in accordance with the Nigerian constitution and relevant laws as agreed in the peace accord which took place on the 13th of Feb.
